Botox Injection
(Botulinum toxin)

Dental Botox, or more precisely the injection of botulinum toxin (type A), is increasingly used in dental medicine to treat various muscular and joint conditions of the orofacial area.

Potential benefits:

Relief of muscle pain (TMD/TMJ): Botulinum toxin works by temporarily relaxing the jaw muscles (masseters, temporals), which can reduce the pain and tension associated with temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ).

Control of bruxism (teeth clenching and grinding): By relaxing the masticatory muscles, Botox can decrease the intensity and frequency of bruxism, thereby reducing premature tooth wear, headaches, and neck tension.

Prevention of tension headaches: Relaxing the jaw and scalp muscles can help prevent tension headaches, often associated with

stress and jaw problems.

Gummy smile treatment: Botox can be injected into the upper lip muscles to reduce their elevation, thus providing a more aesthetic smile.

Reduction of masseter hypertrophy: In some cases, hypertrophy of the masseter muscles can give the jaw a square appearance. Botox can help refine the face by reducing the volume of these muscles.
